Scream: Season 1, Episode 3

Previously On Scream

Rachael Murray got killed by the masked murderer when he threw her over her own balcony and strangled her to death with a noose, making everyone think she hung herself because of the viral video, but i guess that was part of the plan.
Jake had some issues with Noah after having his suspicious that he vandalised his jeep that he left in the school car park over night and the very same morning, everyone in school got a text message from the masked murderer, dancing around Nina's pool and her dead body floating behind him. Making sure everyone knows he's wearing the old Brandon James mask.
After her viral video went live and making her life hell in school, Audrey was going to have the shock of her life, as her close friend Rachael got murdered and Audrey finds out, blaming Emma and her friends for everything they have done.

Emma was home alone and her house alarm goes off, telling her the back door is open, so the security phone her house to make sure everything is OK. As the phone call goes on, Emma gets worried and finds out that she's not talking to the person who works for security, but the masked murderer who could be in the house by now and ready to kill Emma, but he's only calling to warn Emma and to let her know about some secrets.

Episode 3 - Wanna Play A Game?

Emma Finds Out & Tells Audrey

Emma goes to meet her mother Margaret at work but stops to listen to her conversation she's having with Sheriff Hudson, Kieran's father. As soon as she goes to walk in the room Emma overhears her mother say "You don't see this kind of trauma" with the Sheriff Hudson applying that someone might of staged her murder and moved her body so it looked like a suicide. He tells Margaret that Rachael's wake is today (ceremony) and they should wait to tell her mother about their suspicions and that he will open a murder investigation the next day. Emma looks shocked as she listens  to the conversation and it only gets more detailed as Emma also finds out her own mother is lying to her to "protect" her and Emma can't believe what she's hearing and so she leaves.

The very same day is the day of Rachael's wake and its a good turn out, as there's loads of Rachael's family, friends and even Audrey. Audrey is looking around the roomful of people, talking to one another and so Audrey slowly walks away from the crowd of people, wondering upstairs to Rachael's room. Audrey stands at the side of Rachael's bed as her eyes drifts up towards the fan that is on the ceiling, wondering if its possible to even hang yourself off of it. Emma enters Rachael's bedroom and see's Audrey trying to hang herself from the fan, with Emma pulling her down to safety before it gotten any worse.

"Was you just trying to.." Emma starts to say, "No, i was just seeing if it was even possible" Audrey replies. When Audrey is firmly on the ground, Emma tells her that Rachael didn't kill herself and Audrey knew that already in the back of her mind, "Who would want to kill Rachael?" but Emma leaves in a hurry as she doesn't want to answer the question.

Imagine being Emma and hearing a conversation like that, basically finding out that your own mother is someone else and won't share any secrets with you. I would of just entered the room and confronted them both, it probably would of made a better scene to watch instead of seeing Emma hide behind a wall. Also i think i would move out of the house if i found out that someone in my family had a past like Margaret's, with a murdering stalker who won't stop harassing me.

How scary would it be seeing somebody hang themselves as soon as you enter the room?! Even though Audrey wasn't trying to hang herself, but imagine the horror you would go through because that's the first thing you would think of and you would literally try and save them as Emma tried doing. Now that Audrey knows the truth about Rachael i think she will go in full investigation mode and try find out who killed her, maybe get Noah involved as well because he knows all this kid of stuff.

What Bromance?

We see Jake walking from his jeep, with a shovel in his hand and he starts digging up some dirt. He digs and digs until he stumbles upon a metal container and grabs it from the dirt that surrounds it, opens it up and its empty. Jake is angry and says to himself "Son of a B*tch" and chucks the container on the ground. Later that same evening Jake drives to Will's house to tell him about that the money has gone, but Will tells Jake that it isn't gone, that he took the money himself. Will explains to Jake that he took the money out of disrespect to Jake because Will told him to shut down the video and get rid of any further evidence that cold possibly trace back to them both, but Jake never did. Will tells him if he does what he asks, he will consider telling Jake where the money is.

Its night time and Will is waiting for Jake to meet him in the woods, because Jake wants the money. Jake arrives and meets Will with a shovel lent against his shoulder, with Will saying "Aren't we waiting for Tyler" and Jake just wants to dig and get his piece of the money. Will thinks that Jake didn't let Tyler know about the plan to dig up the money and there's friction between the two, as none of them trust each other with the money. Jake shortly finds out that Will didn't stash the money nearby and things get heated as Jake tightens his grip around the shovel and Will slyly grips on to the knife he has behind his back.

Things are seriously getting heated between Will and Jake, i thought they were suppose to be best friends?  I think it could of been better if one of them got hit, so tensions between the two would of been a little more tense and thrilling to watch them both collide as the season goes on. Plus who gave them the money? Iv'e been wondering for ages or did i just miss something in a previous episode? Who ever gave them the money must be linked to the killer or is the killer as he would want the viral video going live, so they have a reason to go on a killing spree and stir things up in the town of Lakewood.

In the Scream movie, these two characters or same type of characters were the murderers and i think if they were the murderers in the series then it would be to obvious and unoriginal of them to put the same concept within the series. I think the two of them might know the murderer or the murderer knows them and they're being used, so the murderer can cause more mayhem as he uses the viral video and the people involved as targets for their murders.

The confrontation

Emma is patiently waiting for her mother to walk through the door, as she was working late on the Murder victims. "Hey Honey" says Margaret as she walks through the door, exhausted from the night before. Emma is reluctant to say something to her mother but gradually builds up the courage to ask the burning question that is eating her up inside, "Why didn't you tell me you were Daisy?" she finally asks her mother who is wondering around the kitchen, making herself a drink but stops as soon as Emma asks. Margaret explains that it happened a long time ago and she tried putting the past behind her, but Emma is having none of it as she tells her she knows about the heart, someone left her and doesn't believe she is dealing it in the right way.

"I'm pretty sure who ever's harassing you, is harassing me" Emma tells her mother, and Emma starts to explain what the killer was saying on the phone to her, that her life is a lie, that her own mother is a liar and a load of awful things to stir things up for Emma's life. The tensions build up between the mother and daughter when Emma keeps confronting her about her past and why the Sheriff is looking for Emma's dad. Margaret is like a closed book because she won't give Emma a reply or any answers to any of her questions and stands there in silence as Emma frustratingly storms out of the house,

The tension just keeps on building higher and higher in this episode, firstly with Will and Jake and now with Emma and Margaret. Nothing could be worse than losing the trust and confidence with a family member, especially one who has a past like Margaret's and who can give you the answers that you need. It's like if your own family member won't tell you the answer you need to know and could possibly save your life in the future, that's how i would think about it anyway. It makes me angry just thinking about this scene, because Emma already knows the truth, so why won't Margaret tell her some more details? She's already getting harassed, only the worse thing could happen is if Emma gets murdered and then Margaret will regret it terribly.

You Choose

The police have set up a trap to catch Tyler, who they think could possibly be the murderer because hes the boyfriend of Nina and he's been missing for a while now. Riley who got the text off Tyler saying "Help me" was the one who set up the meeting place and has a female police officer take her place for safety reasons. The policemen are in position as they wait for Tyler to meet the female officer, who he thinks is Riley. Out come from the distance is a set of head lights coming inside of the woods and the officers get set to jump on Tyler as soon as he reaches the female officer. She takes him down to the floor, while the other officers surround the male who isn't Tyler.

"Some guy on the internet, gave me 200 bucks to drive here and said to give this to some girl" says the man flat on his back and surrounded by cops. One of the officers gets out a piece of white folded paper and unfolds it. He see's a stamp picture of the mask of Brandon James, written underneath it saying "NICE TRY," The killer new that it was a trap and and the police officers are frustrated.

Back at the police station Margaret tells Riley & Emma it was a trap and he didn't show up, but Emma notices that Brooke is no longer at the police station and this makes her very concerned about Brooke's safety.  Emma doesn't know that Brooke got a text message from her school teacher Mr Branson, telling her to meet him and Brooke lied to Emma about it, telling her it was a text message from her dad. Margaret & Emma decide to drive around looking for Brooke, but they can't find her as she's in a hotel room waiting for her school teacher to arrive, so Margaret tells Emma she's going to check with the Sheriff and Emma starts texting the killer.

Emma is getting worried about her friends, one who she left at the police station by her self and the other who is missing and won't answer her phone. Emma phones up Riley and checks to see if she's OK and safe. As she knows Riley is safe, she knows that Brooke is also alone somewhere and she text's the killer saying "Do NOT hurt Brooke," with a fast reply from the killer "As you wish." Riley who is left alone at the station gets a text message from Tyler, saying come meet me outside and Riley is reluctant to do so but she does anyway and walks out of the police station to meet him.

Wow, the killer is very smart and witty as we see him toy with the police and send a random guy to waste their time, along with a note attached to the decoy telling the police that he knew all this time about their plan to catch him. I can only imagine this would make him more angry and maybe start killing more people. Also now that the killer knew about the plan and now has everyone split up from each other, i'm pretty sure that he's going to kill somebody at this point, by the things he was saying to Emma and making her choose between Riley and Brooke, meaning choose one to save while he kills the other one.

I enjoyed reading the text messages between Emma and the killer because i thought it was a bit different than having a standard phone call and reading the conversation made it more tense. Have you not waited for a text message before or seen "Typing Message..." waiting to read something important? It can be pretty intense. Now imagine how you would feel texting a murderer and seeing "Typing Message..." from the killer...That would be intense and scary to see what he might have to say!

I Can See Our Stars

Riley who just received a message from Tyler, is now outside of the police station and can see Tyler's car parked in the car park, so she goes over to see if he's there. When Riley reaches the car, she text's Tyler to see where he is and gets a reply saying "RIGHT HERE." Riley turns around and see's the killer standing right in front of her and punches her right in the face, resulting her to scream and runs across the car park in to a dead end ally. The killer slowly walks towards her, rattling his knife across the railing, with Riley trying to climb a ladder that is in front of the killer. It's to late as the killer stabs Riley in the rib, in the back and slices the back of her leg as she climbs the ladder.

Riley is stumbling across the roof on top of the police station and collapses on a glass window, which she starts to bash on and screams for  "Help," but the man inside the station can't see or hear her. Her phone starts to ring and so she answers it, it's Noah and Noah can see she is in trouble as she tells him to phone the police and that the killer has gotten her. "I can see our stars" says Riley as she's slowly looses her breath, to suddenly dying on top of the roof, dropping the phone with Noah shouting her name.

I did not expect Riley to die so early in the series, i mean she just started dating Noah and i thought something was going to happen between the two of them. I guess it a good way to get Noah angry and maybe make him go after the killer himself, purely out of rage. At this point in time i was thinking that the school teacher could be a good candidate as a suspected killer, because if the killer knows that Brooke and the teacher are in a relationship, then surely the killer knows them both personally or it could actually be the teacher, making us think it isn't him because he will probably say "I wasn't the one who text'd you," to meet him in the hotel room.

Saying that, earlier in the series Jake told Brooke that he knew about the little relationship fling  between Brooke and the teacher and he could be the one who's killing everyone. Since he already knows about Brooke and her secrets.  Plus he had Nina on video tape, telling us he could of killed her and knew everything about her whereabouts. Anddddddd he acts & looks like a plain psychopath, because he put Noah out in to the river, confronted Noah in a aggressive manner at school, spy's on Brooke in class and you know he wanted to hurt Will in the woods.

Back to the scene...The way Riley died was terrible, i mean imagine seeing one of your friends/future girlfriend be in pain to eventually dying with you left on the phone, that's brutal.

Conclusion

I think this has to be my favourite episode so far, because it's the first murder we see that is in the inner circle of the characters of Scream. The murder of Riley will certainly stir some chaos and hear break throughout the next couple of episode and it will be interesting to see how the characters with the loss of Riley, especially Noah as the two were getting close before she died.

My suspicions of the murderer has narrowed down to Mr Branson the school teacher and Jake. Iv'e picked these two purely from this episode, but i might change my mind as the season goes on. Who do you think is is?

The overall episode was great, had a lot of tense moment as we see Emma confront her own mother and begins to text the killer to protect her friends and fails to do so, as she finds Riley when she goes back to the police station. There were some fun scenes too, when we see Riley and Noah go on a second date, but shortly gets interrupted by a text message from "Tyler."
